2009 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting
Put Carolina on your mind!
On behalf of the steering committee, I’d like to extend to all an invitation to join us in Charleston, South Carolina in June 2009. In addition to a unique new venue, we will offer you a rewarding educational experience on timely state-of-the art topics related to antennas, propagation, and radio science. As is typical of recent times, our 5-day technical exchange will be preceded and followed by a day of useful short courses and workshops aimed at updating skill-sets and providing advanced training on important technologies. Also, a very special and different social program and milieu will be available for you & your family to enjoy.
An important point of clarification is in order. Even though we have billed this meeting to be in Charleston, South Carolina, the meeting site is actually located in the city of North Charleston, South Carolina, at the Embassy Suites Convention Center. As wonderful as it would have been to host our joint meeting in the lovely historic district of Charleston, that option proved to be unfeasible. Indeed, North Charleston is perhaps the only venue in South Carolina that has suitable facilities to house our technical sessions under a single roof. North Charleston is about 8 miles north of the historic district of Charleston and we plan to entice you to make the trip each day to enjoy the special nature of Charleston.
As mentioned, the meeting site is the Embassy Suites Convention Center in North Charleston, South Carolina. Additional sleeping rooms will be spread among five additional overflow hotels, most of which are within easy walking distance of the Convention Center. A free daily shuttle service will be provided to assist those at the distant overflow hotels to move to the convention center where the sessions are held. This link provides further details about the overflow hotels.
The most special social aspect of the Charleston meeting will be the Spoleto Festival USA. Our meeting will overlap the last week of this 17-day festival. Spoleto USA fills the historic theaters, churches and outdoor spaces of Charleston with over 120 performances by renowned artists, as well as emerging performers, in disciplines ranging from opera, theater, dance, and chamber, symphonic, choral and jazz music, as well as the visual arts. There is truly something for everyone during this time and I strongly encourage all of you to visit the Spoleto link and plan your time in Charleston accordingly. Also, be on the lookout for a special tour or two which highlights the Spoleto USA experience.
It is our special pleasure to host this meeting for you. We hope that you find it technically fulfilling and highly entertaining. Please bring your family and take advantage of this unique experience. The members of the steering committee and our conference planners, the Three Dimensions, are all looking forward to welcoming you to Charleston. Thank you for your interest and participation.
